Bacon Party!

Before we talk Bacon, lets talk brunch.

Saturday after my Luna Chix bike ride, I met my Ragnar team at Claire’s on Cedros.

I’ve always been intrigued by Claire’s.  Claire’s building is LEED Platinum certified (the only restaurant in San Diego) & their food is sustainable as well.

I ordered the Mushroom & Roasted Tomato omelet but all the dishes looked tasty!  I will be back to try their famous pancakes or maybe lunch!

Ok, back to bacon..

Saturday night our friends Adam & Janie put on a potluck Bacon Party!  Everyone was to bring a bacon dish of some kind & the best bacon dish would win a prize.

Unfortunately, this potluck fell during our vegetarian trial month.  We decided to go anyways!

What do you bring to a bacon party when you aren’t eating bacon?  Fake bacon!

Todd came up with the idea and did all the leg work.  He found a recipe for Eggplant Bacon here and used it to make Facon wrapped asparagus.

Slice eggplant long ways & sprinkle generously with Bacon Salt.  Bacon salt is a vegetarian bacon flavored salt.  It was tasty but I wouldn’t say it tasted like Bacon.

Let eggplant & salt sit for at least a half hour while the salt extracts some of the eggplant’s liquid & soaks in.

Cut asparagus into 3 inch pieces and wrap eggplant around a few pieces of asparagus.

Deep fry until crispy!  You can also put the ‘bacon’ strips straight into the oil as well.

The best part of this was that I didn’t make it!

Looks like bacon doesn’t it?  It doesn’t taste like bacon but it was close & delicious.

Besides the Facon wrapped asparagus, I made Jessica’s
Crazy Feta Dip & added crumbled facon to it!  I’m sure it would be awesome with real bacon as well!

Not eating bacon at this party was tough! Look at all this food!

The food ranged from Bacon wrapped chicken to bacon sushi to bacon brownies & cookies.

Everything looked great!  I did my share of eating as well.  There were some great non-bacon items as well.  Ratatouille, quiche, salad, chips, guacamole, Crazy Feta, fruit (I think I ate my body weight in fruit), sangria & lemon mint water.

What a fun idea!  I think this has to be continued!  I love the theme idea.

What can even compare to a bacon party??  Any thoughts?

all those selections – bacon or otherwise – look amazing! I wish I was there for the bacon party! I agree with you on the themed parties: we should all get our heads together to keep the barbeque season rolling.
